Chevrolet Duramax 2015 Shop Manual
I am usually able to do about anything mechanical as I have the tools typically and the space. What I need is a good piece of advice on buying a repair manual. Would those of you who have made this purchase tell me what I should buy please so that I don't regret the spend and have to do it twice? With my motorcycles I've always purchased the OEM shop manual.
Not sure if that is the direction I should go or if the independent publications are actually better for the 2015.5. Don't mind spending the money on the best most descriptive out there so this isn't an exercise in cheap.
Paper or USB OEM versions: Dang - wasn't expecting a $450 price tag. Do you have personal knowledge of the quality and completeness of this product? Meaning, let's say I have to go in and service or remove/replace the CP4, could I do that having never turned a wrench on a diesel before? And maybe I am looking for too much out of a publication, but I am thinking that combined with You Tube, I could validate the You Tube applicability, get my torque specifications from the manual, and hopefully some procedural guidance like I get from my motorcycle service manuals, will this publication be a no-disappointment buy in your opinion? Would be nice if Haynes made GMC/Silverado 2500/3500 HD service manual That included maintenance of the Duramax. The vast majority of HD's are diesel and the regular GMC/Silverado repair manual has a large amount of info that does not pertain to the diesel HD models.

(2017 and 2018 doesn't show up as available yet - maybe I should try calling? ) Last set I had was for the LLY. IIRC, the price was similar to today.
Assuming newer sets are similar, a set will fill about 2 feet on your bookshelf. If tons of accurate detailed info is what you are after you won't be disappointed. Just down't forget they will have info for all engines, all trims and all cab/box combinations - so, by definition, there is a lot of stuff that doesn't apply to your truck (but might be able to help a buddy ) Downside is likely to be the number of times todays vehicles require a computer/electronics to see 'inside' the electronics on the vehicle in order to do diagnostics and the number of component replacements that require the computer to enter info about or to calibrate the new part. Reason I had the website link right away is that I intend to obtain the set for 2018. (Helm has been the oem supplier for many years) Haven't yet decided if I want usb or paper. Would love to hear experiences/reviews of the usb version.

I'm thinking that if it is easily searchable it may have advantages over paper. Downside might be that sometimes charts, wiring diagrams and the like are sometimes easier to follow on paper. They are worth it if you plan to do as much work as possible on your own vehicle. I bought the set for a 2014 duramax I got from a salvage auction, it helped a lot to have step by step directions to take things apart and replace. The only downside is every section refers to other sections so it takes some page flipping. The motorcycle books do that too but not to such an extreme, but due to the amount of additional parts it makes sense. If the usb version has links I would say it would help a lot.
I like having a hard copy though since I'm usually working in the driveway. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk.
