I need to buy a service manual for my 65 fastback. I would like to find a factory service manual, but I'm guessing they're hard to find. I did find one that's advertised as a reprint for $41, but I don't know anything about it. I don't want a Haynes manual, as they are a little lite on info. Which manual is the real deal and who sells it?The factory service manual is easy to find, every Mustang parts vendor sells them, they can also be found on Amazon and ebay. Available in print and CD. You're right to avoid Haynes and Chilton, they are useless.

1968 FORD FACTORY REPAIR SHOP & SERVICE MANUAL INCLUDES: Ford Mustang, Falcon, Falcon Futura, Fairlane, 500, Torino, Torino GT, & Ranchero. Get DIY detailed auto repair information for a 1968 Ford Mustang from the name you trust - Chilton.

There's a full set of 'Osborne Assembly Manuals' too which are nice to have if you are doing major restoration work. They aren't terribly well copied so you want the paper versions. The only choice anyway, I think. I happen to have a couple of older computers running in the garage plus a semi-retired laser printer so the factory manual on CD is almost a no-brainer for me. If a paper book suits you better, then by all means. If you plan on rebuilding a 289, or helping get it to a machine shop, the you REALLY want to buy 'How to rebuild small block Ford engines' by Tom Monroe. It's like the best engine rebuild book for the hobby mechanic ever.

But starting with some version of the factory manual is best. I used to buy every book that had Mustang on it. Most are no more than entertainment. The three I've mentioned are the dog-eared and fingerprinted ones.

Metal turtle art. Especially that Monroe book.
